Description
Porphyras Patagos, known as Porphy, hails from the Greek village of Simitra. Born to humble parents, he discovers an early passion for automobiles and mechanics, learning by watching his father work in their small family garage. He dreams of expanding this service station into a full business. Porphy shares a deep bond with his younger sister, Mina, and his parents, Christophore and Anek, who provide caring support. His mother, from a wealthy family, chose to elope with his father, valuing love over status.

A cataclysmic earthquake ravages Simitra, killing his parents and many villagers. Orphaned and separated from Mina during the chaos when she accidentally boards a ship to Italy, Porphy refuses institutional adoption. Determined to find his sister, he embarks alone across Europe. His companion is Apollo, an owl embodying his ties to Simitra.

During his travels, Porphy displays profound loyalty driving his relentless search, resourcefulness in bartering with mechanical skills for sustenance or transport, and a generally kind, empathetic nature. Yet the trauma of loss surfaces in crises, including a temporary crisis of faith where he questions divine justice. He encounters benevolent helpers offering shelter and morally ambiguous figures exploiting his vulnerability, forcing him to navigate distrust while clinging to hope. Key relationships include Alessia, a traveling companion who aids him late in his journey and shares fleeting intimacy; and Isabella, a Romani woman who initially cares for Mina but whose motives grow complex due to grief for her own dead daughter.

Porphy's journey fosters increasing resilience and moral courage. He defends orphans against bandits, challenges societal injustices like feuding Sicilian mafia families, and helps others facing trauma, such as encouraging a disfigured woman to accept her appearance. His mechanical skills repeatedly become lifelines, enabling vital contributions to communities. Losing Apollo, sacrificed to save him from a hunter, delivers a significant emotional blow but hardens his resolve.

The quest culminates in Paris. Porphy reunites with Mina, who recovered from trauma-induced amnesia after surviving an attempted assault by Isabella's husband, Carlos. Mina found refuge in film production under actress Tiffany Aubert's care. This reunion ends Porphy's physical and emotional odyssey across a Europe shaped by hardship and human connection.
