Description
Miyako Takagami, mother of Noboru and Tōru Takagami and wife of Haruki Takagami, passed away soon after Tōru’s birth, her story unfolding before the series’ timeline. As a Mizuchi family priestess bound to an elemental spirit, she carried a duty that traditionally claimed bearers’ lives before age thirty. Yet Miyako embraced her years with vibrant warmth and an infectious cheerfulness, her youthful spirit undimmed by adulthood’s responsibilities.

Her playful charm radiated through a love for whimsical treasures, especially animal mascots—a passion that sparked her first meeting with Haruki. She boldly approached him as he distributed flyers in a mascot costume, her enthusiasm kindling a romance that blossomed into marriage. This delight in the fantastical also drew her to the elusive fox deity Kūgen Tenko. Defying his usual detachment, Miyako charmed him with unrelenting affection, hugging him fiercely during their initial encounter. Their unlikely friendship deepened over time, leaving an indelible mark on the solitary deity.

Miyako carefully shielded Noboru from her priestess duties and the hidden supernatural world, maintaining a protective divide between family and fate. Nevertheless, her spiritual heritage resonated through Tōru, whose inherited Yin energy attracted yōkai attention. In death, her spirit lingered unseen until discovered by Kūgen, who orchestrated a Soul Ascension ritual. This fleeting reunion allowed Tōru to bid her farewell, granting closure before her peaceful departure.

Miyako’s legacy endures in fleeting yet profound connections—between mortal and divine, mother and child, and the bittersweet echoes of a life that bridged worlds. Her absence lingers most in the unanswered longing to witness her youngest son’s life, a silent thread woven into the family’s story.
