OVA
Description
Lena Sayers is the original owner of the Blue Sky Sapphire GEM and mother of Arika Yumemiya. Her surname potentially links her to Alyssa Searrs from Mai-HiME. Early media used "Rena," but official materials confirmed "Lena" via on-screen text during her materialization.
In the OVA *My-Otome 0~S.ifr~*, 16-year-old Meister Otome Lena contracts with Bruce Blanc de Windbloom II, initially wielding the Lofty Crimson Jade GEM. Her immense power frequently overloads standard GEMS, causing them to crack or break. After her GEM fails against the android M-9, she obtains the Blue Sky Sapphire, a Super Meister GEM capable of harnessing her full strength, shifting her Element from a bow to the crystal spear Blue Sky Sphere. Lena harbors deep reluctance about her Otome powers' destructive potential and initially avoids materializing her Robe. Tasked with protecting Sifr Fran, Windbloom's illegitimate heir, she forms a close bond with her. During this mission, Lena awakens her true HiME nature, marked by a birthmark below her left breast. This heritage grants her a Child named Artemis, manifesting as giant golden wings enabling autonomous combat, including firing energy arrows. Artemis allows her to materialize a distinct Robe design without a master's contract. Her signature technique creates physical doppelgangers for offense and defense, later replicated by M-9. She defeats four Garderobe Columns simultaneously using this technique after they attempt to assassinate Sifr.
In the main *My-Otome* anime, Lena appears during Windbloom Castle's invasion. Fatally wounded, she sends the infant princess Mashiro Blan de Windbloom to safety with the Blue Sky Sapphire before confronting Aswad's forces. She perishes alongside King Bruce and Queen Sifr. Schwartz later recovers her body, repurposing it into a nanomachine-based system powering their Valkyrie units and a control tower disrupting Otome GEMs. This system is destroyed when Arika eliminates Lena's remains to stop Schwartz.
The *My-Otome* manga presents an alternate continuity where Lena survives the Windbloom invasion. Residing in the Black Valley, she is rescued by Rad after her village's destruction and briefly aligns with Schwartz. Nina Wáng identifies her as the Blue Sky Sapphire's former user. During a Cardair attack, Rad sacrifices himself to protect her, and she receives medical treatment at Garderobe. She later intercepts an attack meant for Mashiro, sustaining mortal injuries. With her dying act, she integrates herself into Garderobe's Founder system, replacing Fumi Himeno to restore Otome capabilities across Earl, becoming the new founder of the Otome system.
Lena's relationships include a maternal bond with Arika, a protective bond with Sifr Fran, and a contractual partnership with Bruce Windbloom. Her friendship with fellow Otome Elliot Chandler carries undertones of unrequited romantic interest from Elliot. The OVA explores her strained relationship with her mother, though they reconcile through correspondence.
Her abilities extend beyond standard Otome powers due to her HiME lineage. She exhibits superhuman strength and speed without her Robe, blocks bladed weapons barehanded, and survives atmospheric re-entry. The Blue Sky Sapphire grants massive energy weapons and shields capable of diffusing mountain-vaporizing lasers. Artemis enables flight, space combat, and autonomous defense systems operating independently. Her legacy endures through Arika inheriting the Blue Sky Sapphire and her impact on Earl's political landscape through her protective actions and the technological consequences of her body's use by Schwartz.
