Description
Ryuji Hirasaka, an unemployed middle-aged gynecologist living independently in Japan, accepts an unexpected email offer of temporary employment from St. Juliana Hospital. Nurse Ren Nanase escorts him upon arrival to meet hospital president Narumi Jinguji—a woman he brutally raped in the past. Despite this history, Narumi proposes he oversee a new department catering to patients' sexual interests; Ryuji accepts, driven by lewd excitement and twisted ambitions.
His background includes witnessing a mortally wounded woman during university, an event contributing to ambiguous, warped perceptions of women. Earlier, he attended medical school alongside rival Narumi Jinguji. She once challenged him to seduce a designated woman before graduation, promising submission if he succeeded, further fueling his deviant tendencies.
At St. Juliana, Ryuji employs cold reading and psychological manipulation to identify nursing staff vulnerabilities. He exploits them through blackmail, coercion, and brutal experimentation. His targets include Ren Nanase (using a match-fixing scandal), Remi Shinjyo (leveraging malpractice history), Ako Fujisawa (falsely accusing of drug theft), and Hikaru Kodama (subjecting to extreme inhumane practices). His methods induce Stockholm syndrome, creating emotional dependence in his victims despite the abuse.
Physically, Ryuji possesses gray shoulder-length hair, yellow eyes, and wears glasses and a consistent lab coat, maintaining a lecherous and grim demeanor.
His fate varies: in the original storyline, Ren Nanase stabs him to death in episode 5 after he regains consciousness, coinciding with Narumi Jinguji's suicide. An alternate ending in "Night Shift Nurses Kranke" depicts him marrying Ren Nanase, relocating to the countryside to continue experiments, with Narumi attending their wedding.
In the sequel "Yakin Byōtō Ni," his legacy persists indirectly. Photographs documenting his corruption of Ren Nanase are discovered by Dr. Kuwabara, who becomes obsessed with her. This revelation contributes to Kuwabara's mental deterioration and violent actions, illustrating Ryuji's lingering influence.
