Description
Yū Shinozaki hails from northern Japan and chafes against his conventional life, viewing it as rigidly governed by societal expectations symbolized by a clock turning right. This perspective fuels conflict with his parents, teachers, and childhood friend Aoi, who embodies the structured existence he rejects. Only his older sister Moe, a biker who supports his unconventional mindset, offers understanding and provides him emotional refuge.
Feeling increasingly alienated, especially after distressing school incidents, he abandons his life. With help from Moe's friend Tetsuo, he departs on a motorcycle, embarking on a self-imposed journey across Japan. His goal is to forge an alternative path, metaphorically forcing the clock to turn left, seeking meaning beyond societal norms.
Traveling exposes him to diverse individuals and situations, prompting him to frequently intervene and assist others with their personal struggles. These encounters gradually reshape his outlook, helping him rediscover purpose. Initially despondent and emotionally shut down, his journey interactions foster greater openness and deep engagement with strangers' lives. This transformation manifests as increased assertiveness and empathy, occurring relatively swiftly within the compressed narrative timeframe.
His relationship with Aoi remains a persistent thread during his travels; she harbors romantic feelings he previously disregarded. The journey accelerates his emotional maturation, enabling him to reconcile his need for personal freedom with his connections to others. Concluding his travels, he attains a renewed sense of self and direction, alongside romantic resolution described as finding "the love of his life."
