Description
Kei Shindou, a 16-year-old student at Otobane Academy in Otowa, Japan born June 2, possesses distinctive purple hair and yellow eyes. Standing 150 cm tall and weighing 40 kg, she is Chihiro Shindou's fraternal twin sister, recognized as the elder despite their negligible age difference.
Her childhood forged an inseparable bond with Hiro Hirono and Chihiro. A pivotal moment occurred at age 12 when Kei took Hiro to the beach without telling Chihiro. Chihiro pursued them and suffered a severe car accident. Consumed by guilt, Kei blamed herself for robbing Chihiro of a future with Hiro, creating a lasting emotional barrier that made her feel undeserving of Hiro's affection.
Athletically gifted, Kei excels as the star player on her school's basketball team and frequently jogs near the coast. She maintains a tomboyish demeanor but occasionally dons dresses or skirts. Academically, she struggles outside physical education classes. Living next door to Hiro, she routinely wakes him due to his late-night manga drawing sessions, adopting a caretaker role. Kei harbors deep romantic feelings for him, masking them with brusque or sibling-like behavior.
Her relationship with Hiro complicates when Miyako Miyamura enters his life, sparking jealousy. Viewing Miyako as a negative influence, Kei competes for Hiro's attention, even deleting Miyako's messages to prevent him from seeing them. Hiro ultimately chooses Miyako, deepening Kei's sense of loss and unworthiness.
Filmmaker Kyosuke Tsutsumi becomes infatuated after filming Kei running and persuades her to let him document her daily life. Initially resistant due to her temper and preoccupation with Hiro, Kei gradually opens up to Kyosuke. This journey involves confronting her guilt over Chihiro's accident and fear of abandonment. With Kyosuke's support, she accepts Hiro's relationship with Miyako and overcomes her self-blame, leading to a romantic relationship with Kyosuke.
Kei reconciles with Chihiro, acknowledging their shared past and strengthening their sisterly bond. She also mentors fellow basketball player Mizuki Hayama, who admires her. Her development concludes as she embraces a future free from past guilt, committed to Kyosuke while maintaining supportive relationships with Hiro, Miyako, and Chihiro.
