Description
Pascal Avaf, also known as Pascual Abaj in updated translations, is a one-thousand-year-old Olmec spirit serving as the second guardian ghost of Chocolove McDonnell. Originally a 14-year-old Olmec shaman participating in the AD 1000 Shaman Fight, he was killed by Asakura Hao during the tournament. Though he did not win, his courage impressed the Indio people, who later worshipped him as a god. After death, his spirit resided in the Indio Commune and evolved into a Seirei.
During the AD 2000 Shaman Fight, Pascal collaborated with Matamune and the Gandhara faction to guide the Five Elemental Warriors—including Yoh Asakura—in their Hell training, preparing them to confront Hao. After the tournament, he remained within the Great Spirit until 2014, when he returned to the physical world alongside the former Shaman King Koko A Kaka.
As Chocolove's guardian spirit, Pascal enables key abilities through their Oversouls:
- **O.S. Olmeca**: A Spirit-Type Oversoul forming an Olmec stone head. It allows Chocolove to run on air with minimal Furyoku consumption, grants near-invisibility, and can deflect Furyoku blasts.
- **O.S. Jaguarman**: The series' first armor-type Oversoul, integrating Pascal and Mic the Jaguar into Chocolove's shaft claws to form Aztec-inspired jaguar armor. This grants supersonic speed and enhanced claws for the *Bakuju Kaiten: Jaguarshaft* cutting technique. Pascal can speak through the armor, which also features an unnamed eye-beam attack.
- **O.S. in Air**: A Spirit-Type Oversoul merging Pascal and Mic into the air to create erosive, desiccating winds. Its primary attack, *Winning Ayers Rock*, defeats opponents instantly.
Pascal possesses extensive shamanic knowledge, which he used to teach Tao Ren and Usui Horokeu to create armor-type Oversouls. Orona noted Chocolove resembles Pascal's human form, though Chocolove disputed this upon seeing Pascal's true appearance.
Known details include his birthdate (June 4, 986), blood type (B), hobby (playing the quena, an Andean flute), and favorite food (cacao beans). His name derives from Pascual Abaj, a Maya stone idol in Guatemala, with "Abaj" meaning "stone" in Mayan languages and "Pascual" meaning "Easter" in Spanish. He does not appear in the 2001 anime adaptation.
