Ichika plays guitar in the girl band AZALEA, joined by vocalist/bassist Nanami Kuon and drummer Futaba. The trio formed during high school through a mutual passion for music, initially performing without a formal band name. Each member proposed a name reflecting their bond: Nanami suggested "Band, Band, Band" to signify their trio, Ichika offered "Nanaichiba" blending their names, and Futaba proposed "AZALEA" after the flower representing "the joy of youth." They unanimously adopted AZALEA.
After debuting at their school festival and vowing to pursue music post-graduation, AZALEA moved to Tokyo but faced scarce opportunities, nearly quitting due to obscurity. Working part-time jobs to survive, they attracted producer Toshihiko Karasawa. He doubted their commercial viability yet signed them to his label Key Time, guaranteeing a dome tour within two years in exchange for total compliance with his artistic vision. This contract dictated their costumes, choreography, and song choices, deviating from their original musical style.
Though they gained fame and fans under this system, the compromise sparked internal conflict as they balanced industry pressures against their artistic identity. Their path crossed Eiko Tsukimi and Kongming during a 100,000-likes challenge, where Kongming pinpointed AZALEA as Eiko’s main rival. The band’s trajectory underscores the struggle to preserve authenticity within commercial music frameworks.
