Description
Chōji Akimichi, destined to become the sixteenth head of Konohagakure's Akimichi clan after his father Chōza, faced childhood ridicule for his weight and lack of athleticism in "Ninja," leading to exclusion from play. Shikamaru Nara defended him, though others still refused to include him. Shortly after, Chōji and Shikamaru bonded over cloud-watching and sharing snacks on a rooftop, beginning their lifelong friendship built on mutual trust and loyalty.

Chōji possesses a profound love for food, frequently motivating his actions and occasionally interfering with missions when eating takes precedence over stealth or teamwork. He is deeply sensitive about his weight, reacting strongly to being called "fat" and preferring terms like "chubby," "big-boned," or "pleasantly plump," a sensitivity that can provoke him into combat. Despite this, he exhibits unwavering kindness and loyalty, particularly toward Shikamaru and his mentor, Asuma Sarutobi. His greatest weakness was historically his lack of self-confidence, overcome during the Fourth Shinobi World War.

As a genin on Team Asuma with Shikamaru and Ino Yamanaka, forming the next Ino–Shika–Chō trio, Chōji overcame his reluctance to fight during the Chūnin Exams when an opponent insulted his size, though he lost the match. His dedication to Shikamaru was highlighted during the Sasuke Recovery Mission when he battled Jirōbō of the Sound Four. After enduring insults about Shikamaru, Chōji consumed the Akimichi clan’s life-threatening Three Colored Pills to amplify his strength, defeating Jirōbō but nearly dying from the pills' side effects. Allied medics rescued him, and he later recovered.

In Part II, Chōji achieved chūnin rank and refined his abilities. During Asuma’s death, Asuma reassured Chōji his kindness would make him a formidable ninja. Chōji later joined the mission to avenge Asuma against Hidan and Kakuzu, where Hidan’s taunts about his weight and Asuma provoked a reckless attack requiring intervention from Shikamaru and Kakashi. His combat skills evolved, contributing significantly to Allied Shinobi Forces victories in the Fourth Shinobi World War. He confronted reanimated enemies, including Asuma, fighting resolutely despite emotional turmoil and demonstrating newfound confidence.

As an adult, Chōji married Karui and fathered a daughter, Chōchō. He became more laid-back and jovial, retaining his competitive spirit through eating contests with Chōchō. He remained deeply involved in his clan’s traditions, training Chōchō in Akimichi techniques. During the "Naruto Shinden: Parent and Child Day" story, family tensions arose when Karui expelled him from home for eating shared sweets. He and Chōchō entered a food competition to win her back, overcoming sabotage and giant dumplings through familial cooperation, leading to reconciliation.

In the "Hidden Leaf Village Grand Sports Festival" OVA, Chōji participated in a sports competition alongside other Konoha shinobi.

Chōji’s abilities center on the Akimichi clan’s hiden techniques, converting calories into chakra to expand his body size. Key techniques include the Multi-Size Technique, Human Bullet Tank, and Butterfly Mode. He wields the clan’s specialized pills, though the Three Colored Pills carry lethal risks. By adulthood, he mastered advanced forms like the Spiked Human Bullet Tank, enhancing his combat effectiveness.
