Description
Saphentite Neikes, universally called Sapphee, is a lamia with a humanoid upper half and a pale lilac-scaled serpentine tail stretching about 8 meters. Her albinism manifests as silver hair, pale skin, and red eyes, causing extreme photosensitivity that demands protective gear outdoors: a black mesh bodysuit, a strapless white bralette, and often a veil or umbrella. Her standard attire features a nurse's cap and a gold-accented choker with red gems.
Professionally diligent yet intensely jealous, particularly regarding romantic rivals for Dr. Glenn Litbeit's affection, Sapphee harbors deep, unrequited feelings she terms her "incurable disease." This jealousy occasionally sparks violent outbursts, though she generally avoids conflict unless provoked. Alcohol lowers her inhibitions, making her more openly affectionate and susceptible to bribery. She resents being mistaken for a nurse and derisively calls her teacher "octo-woman."
Born into the Neikes family, famed pharmacists and assassins, she received assassin training from childhood. As part of a partnership agreement, the Neikes dispatched her to live with the Litbeit family, secretly instructed to kill them if the alliance failed—a mission later canceled when she couldn't harm them. During this time, she bonded closely with Glenn Litbeit. Years later, she enrolled at Nemea Academy to study medicine, serendipitously reuniting with Glenn, and now serves as his medical assistant at the Litbeit Clinic.
Her primary relationship is with Glenn Litbeit, her childhood friend, employer, and fiancé after his proposal in Volume 6; their wedding awaits repayment of clinic debts. She is fiercely protective, prepared to use her assassin skills—even sacrificing her life—to defend him. Sapphee resents Cthulhy Squele for enforcing a promise restricting her physical relationship with Glenn. She shares a close, sisterly bond with Arahnia Taranterra Arachnida, frequently drinking and teasing together; she tolerates Arahnia's harmless flirtations with Glenn.
As a trained doctor, Sapphee excels in diagnosis and crafting specialized medicines, leveraging her family's pharmaceutical knowledge. Her lamia physiology grants enhanced strength, especially in her tail, which functions as a potent third limb capable of restraining centaurs. She possesses infrared vision, lacks tear ducts (rendering her physically incapable of crying), and is immune to most poisons, though processing them weakens her immune system. Weaknesses include vulnerability to cold environments due to being cold-blooded and her severe photosensitivity.
Her character arc involves reconciling her assassin heritage with her medical ethics, culminating in an open commitment to Glenn. The series concludes with their marriage, marked by a significant kiss in Volume 10, showcasing her enduring loyalty and emotional resilience throughout her interactions and growth.
