Description
Lyca is a werewolf character from the manga and anime series Zombie-Loan. He has lived for a very long time and has outlived all of his kin, leaving him entirely alone. Before being discovered by the main cast, he dwelt in a cave surrounded by the bones of his deceased relatives, isolated from the world. He makes his first appearance when the main characters are staying at a hot springs resort. During a recreational trip, members of the Z-Loan office initially mistake him for a zombie, and he attacks Shito Tachibana and Michiru Kita before retreating after Michiru strikes him with a bag of groceries. The group later makes their way to his cave, where Kuze Shimotsuki tames him using mysterious powers.
After being tamed, Shimotsuki brings Lyca back to the city. He is eventually sent to Z-Loan under the belief that gaining experience in the field will make him stronger. He also begins attending the same school as Michiru, Chika Akatsuki, and Shito Tachibana. Lyca learns human speech, though his knowledge remains limited; he typically communicates in short, simple sentences and occasionally lets out wolf-like growls. He allows Michiru to pat him on the head, but he bites people he dislikes or those who treat him like an animal. He shows a strong protective instinct toward Shimotsuki.
Lyca's primary motivation is his desire to become stronger for the sake of protecting Shimotsuki. Before she gave him the name Raika, Chika and Shito referred to him as Pochi and John. Shito also remarks that Lyca is always alone, drawing a comparison between Lyca's solitude and his own feelings.
In terms of abilities, Lyca is a lycanthrope with the physical traits of a werewolf. He possesses enhanced senses, a notable healing factor, and the capacity to transform fully into a wolf. In this form, his strength and speed are significantly amplified. His initial appearance led the Z-Loan members to believe he was a zombie because of his feral behavior and remote habitat. Throughout the story, Lyca begins to learn how to interact with humans and finds a place within the group, though he retains his wild instincts and remains fiercely loyal to those he trusts.
