Masquerade emerged as a split personality within Alice Gehabich, forged when the Silent Core's negative energy influenced her through her grandfather's dimension transporter. This hidden identity manifested unbeknownst to Alice, causing her to awaken in unfamiliar locations with no memory of arrival. Masquerade presented as a distinct male persona, physically contrasting Alice with spiked blond hair, a purple-and-blue visor mask, a white cape-like coat featuring armored chest plating, and buckled boots. The transformation represented a complete physical and psychological shift.
Initially serving as a primary antagonist under Naga's command within the Doom Beings, Masquerade embodied ruthless ambition, power obsession, and a win-at-all-costs mentality. He perceived battles as life-or-death, banishing both opponents' and his own Bakugan to the Doom Dimension without remorse, deeming it essential for survival and dominance. His tactics frequently bordered on cheating, justified by his belief that victory excused any means. He maintained unwavering loyalty to Naga, treating the mission to collect the Infinity Core as an absolute directive.
Masquerade operated by challenging global brawlers, stealing their Bakugan upon victory and manipulating others into using destructive Doom Cards. He recruited top-ranked brawlers like Klaus, Chan Lee, and Julio through deception or brainwashing, leveraging his position as the top-ranked online brawler. His Guardian Bakugan shifted from the discarded Darkus Reaper to Darkus Hydranoid, recognizing its greater potential. Hydranoid evolved into Dual Hydranoid after Masquerade banished his recruited brawlers' partners as punishment, and later into Alpha Hydranoid following a trial against the illusionary Alice within the Doom Dimension.
A pivotal shift occurred during Masquerade's final battle against Dan Kuso. After defeat, Dan offered reconciliation, prompting Masquerade to remove his mask and reveal himself as Alice, symbolically rejecting his former identity. He later resurfaced to aid Dan against Centorrior and Druman, fighting alongside him as an ally. Concluding this battle, he relinquished his existence by disintegrating his mask, entrusting Alpha Hydranoid to Alice and implying his consciousness merged back with hers. His silhouette briefly appeared in Alice's shadow during her farewell to Hydranoid in the Japanese version, suggesting residual presence.
Masquerade's influence persisted psychologically. During Alice's confrontation with Shadow Prove in *New Vestroia*, he manifested in her mind, urging battle over retreat. Though Alice resisted full transformation, she channeled his strategic aggression to destroy Hades, integrating his traits without losing her identity. Alpha Hydranoid remained aware of Masquerade's lingering essence, cautioning Alice against weakness.
Masquerade's battle record reflected dominance, suffering only three losses: one due to Shun's mid-battle betrayal, another against Joe Brown influenced by the Infinity Core, and the definitive defeat by Dan that catalyzed his redemption. He notably defeated all Battle Brawlers simultaneously when they sacrificed themselves to enter the Doom Dimension. His legacy included traits mirrored in antagonists like Spectra Phantom—the masked persona, pursuit of ultimate Bakugan power, and eventual turn to heroism.
Masquerade's narrative concluded with physical dissolution, but his impact endured through Alice's ownership of Alpha Hydranoid and her acceptance of his residual strength as part of her identity.
