TV-Series
Description
Rina Tachibana is an extroverted and talkative teenage student at Ouka East High School. She sports a slender frame and slightly upturned eyes. Initially appearing as Daisuke's classmate, she later offers crucial shelter to Shiika.
Her past holds deep trauma: trapped in a childhood dominated by a wealthy, powerful father who routinely assaulted her mother. Confined to a sparse room during elementary years, Rina coped by painting scenes glimpsed through her window. After her mother's death, fearing she would become her father's next target, Rina resolved to kill him first. This desperate act transformed her into a Mushitsuki, granting the power she needed for vengeance.
Operating under the alias "Lady" or "Lady Bird," Rina leads the resistance group Mushibane. Her driving purpose is securing sanctuary for Mushitsuki, believing they deserve normal lives free from persecution. She openly rails against societal discrimination, voicing frustration toward those who judge without understanding. Her explicit dream is finding a place to belong.
She harbors the Mushi Nanahoshi, a First-Class Minion Kashu-Type ladybug capable of flight. Rina rides Nanahoshi and wields a high-speed sonic slash as her most potent attack. While she develops feelings for classmate Daisuke, she remains unaware of his true identity or his affection for Shiika. Daisuke notes she reminds him of his older sister, particularly moved by an incomplete painting of hers he discovered.
Rina's story concludes with her death, its final moments and circumstances documented within the narrative.
Her quotes reflect her convictions:
- "Because I just can’t stand people like you. You looked as if you were raised in a good family without experiencing any hardship. Yet, you’re treating Mushitsuki with discrimination just because you don’t understand their nature. It’s just annoying to me."
- "Even if we are Mushitsuki, we deserve a sanctuary! But you people just keep destroying our sanctuaries one by one! We are all working hard to live... We are also very normal people! Why do we have to die for the motif of 'For the country'?!"
- "My father was the worst. He would pretend to be a gentle father to the outside world, but at home, he would just beat up my mother every day, for no reason... As such, ever since I matured, the only thing I could think about was killing that guy."
