Description
Hideki Egami, Editor-in-Chief of Shogakukan's *Monthly Ikki* magazine, conceived *Tetsuko no Tabi* after discovering Hirohiko Yokomi's book *Getting On and Off of JR's 4600 Stations* in Tokyo's Jimbocho Shosen Grande bookstore. As a dedicated railfan, Egami aimed to adapt Yokomi's travels into manga.

He supervised the manga's production, collaborated on its collected tankōbon volumes, and occasionally appeared within its pages through cameos reflecting his real-world role. His editorial philosophy emphasized creator passion over market trends, central to *Monthly Ikki*.

Beyond editing, Egami played guitar and maintained his active railfan interests, aligning with the series' themes. He participated in planning cooperation for the *Tetsuko no Tabi* anime adaptation through Shogakukan's Ikki Editorial Department.

After retiring from *Monthly Ikki*, Egami continued contributing to media projects, receiving special thanks for *Children of the Sea* and providing original concept assistance for *House of Five Leaves*.
