Description
Ryusei no Kira, also known as Kira of Shooting Star, is a half-human, half-angel individual and the older brother of Maya. His mixed heritage made him and his brother targets for bullying by full-blooded angels during their youth, an experience that forged his protective and occasionally cold demeanor. This treatment persisted despite their unique status as sons of the fallen angel Lucifer, a fact largely unknown among the angelic community that further complicated their relationship with Heaven.
He has blonde hair cut to ear length, green eyes, and an adult appearance. His typical attire consists of tight, black sleeveless clothing with silver linings that stops at his midriff, paired with black, tight-fitting pants. Notable accessories include a silver armband with holes on his left forearm, a tattoo beneath it, and black arm warmers on both forearms. While on Earth, he adopted a more casual style, wearing a black turtleneck with a brown suit and beige khaki pants. He favors a whip as his weapon, though he seldom employs it in combat.
His personality is defined by a powerful protective instinct, focused especially on his younger brother Maya, who is vulnerable to bullying due to their heritage. This protectiveness sometimes presents as a brother complex. He is known for his bad temper and cold-hearted attitude toward most people, reserving particular rudeness for Goh. Yet he displays seriousness and resolve when circumstances demand it. He often teases and makes snide comments toward Rey, a habit which greatly annoys him. Despite his generally abrasive exterior, he maintains close friendships with Judas, Luca, Goh, and Shin, and he values their opinions.
He was once a candidate for the elite Six Saint Beasts, a position his brother Maya actively desired. However, Kira had other plans and ultimately chose to leave Heaven alongside Maya. They departed to wander the Earth as Wandering Angels in search of their human mother. This choice deeply upset Maya, who had hoped the prestigious role would earn them respect, and required Judas’s intervention to facilitate.
His relationships are numerous and intricate. He holds respect for Zeus as the creator of all angels. His familial connection to Lucifer was established in CD dramas, though their meeting was not shown in the anime. A youthful, one-time encounter with the angel Pandora was a pleasant experience for both. Among the Saint Beasts, he is close friends with Judas, Luca, Goh, and Shin. His dynamic with Rey is mainly antagonistic, centered on teasing, though the two can cooperate when needed. His relationship with Gai improved after Gai became Maya’s first best friend. His most significant bond is with his brother Maya, marked by a close relationship that includes Kira teasing him with scary stories.
A notable event from his youth, explored in OVAs, involved him and Maya searching through a heavenly treasury. There they discovered a set of twin Saint Beast weapons, which would later be used to brainwash four of the Saint Beasts—an incident that served as a call forward to future events.
