Description
Fuuga no Maya is a half-human, half-angel, sharing this mixed heritage with his older brother Kira. Their lineage caused marginalization in Heaven, where other angels bullied them for their human ancestry. Only the higher-ranking angel Goh treated them without prejudice. Resenting the angel community, Maya and Kira eventually left Heaven together to search for their human mother on Earth, becoming wandering angels. Maya initially desired to become a Saint Beast to gain respect and counter the bullying, but chose familial loyalty over this ambition when Kira decided to leave.

Physically, Maya has reddish-brown hair, green eyes, and pale skin. He is of below-average height, matching Gai's stature. In Heaven, he wore a black, skin-tight garment ending above the knees with shoulder and armpit openings, layered under a waist-length white jacket extending to mid-calf at the back, plus white boots and fingerless gloves. On Earth, he adopted more human-like clothing: a long-sleeved denim jacket with rolled cuffs over a white shirt and black pants.

Maya's personality is playful, innocent, and naive, traits persisting into adulthood. He exhibited childlike enthusiasm, especially with his close friend Gai, sharing interests like watching anime and visiting human establishments such as convenience stores. Despite his generally lighthearted demeanor, Maya showed emotional depth, experiencing distress over conflicts with Kira and displaying courage and loyalty when assisting endangered guardian angels or investigating celestial conspiracies.

His abilities include controlling and communicating with ghosts, demonstrated when he helped the spirits of Iria and Sara transition by convincing them of their deaths during an encounter at a haunted mansion. He also possesses standard angelic capabilities, though his half-human nature may affect their scope or potency.

Maya's relationships are central. His bond with Kira is profoundly close, marked by Kira's protectiveness and Maya's unwavering trust; their only significant conflict arose over leaving Heaven, though Maya ultimately joined Kira. His friendship with Byakko no Gai is equally significant, beginning in Heaven and deepening on Earth through shared adventures and leisure. Maya respected higher-ranking angels Judas, Luca, Shin, Rey, and especially Goh, whom he viewed as an older brother. His relationship with Pandora was complex; friendly during their youth in the Palace, tensions emerged later. Drama CD content revealed Pandora discovered Maya had hidden the Box of Hope per Shin's instructions before Shin's crucifixion, leading Cassandra and Pandora to retrieve it.

Maya's development unfolds across franchise installments. He appeared as a wandering angel aiding lost spirits and assisting the Saint Beasts during their Earth mission in the 2003 anime "Saint Beast ~Seijuu Kourin Hen~." The OVA "Saint Beast: Ikusen no Hiru to Yoru Hen" depicted his early life in Heaven, including his first meeting and immediate friendship with Gai at a festival. His role expanded in the 2007 series "Saint Beast: Kouin Jojishi Tenshi Tan," exploring his candidacy for the Six Saint Beasts, experiences with the new celestial ranking system, and eventual departure from Heaven with Kira. Additional backstory in drama CDs included his involvement in the Box of Hope incident with Pandora and Cassandra. Throughout, his journey remained anchored in his search for his mother and adaptation to life on Earth alongside Kira.
