Description
Fumiki Mizutani is the left fielder for Nishiura High School's baseball team. His baseball skills are less developed than his teammates', leading to occasional fielding errors and unreliable catches. This inconsistency earned him the derogatory nickname "Kuso Left" (Crappy Left) from catcher Takaya Abe. At bat, Mizutani relies more on luck than skill, struggling to recognize pitches effectively.
He possesses distinctive red hair and greenish-blue eyes, unique on the team. Off the field, he often wears headphones around his neck, suggesting an interest in music outside practice.
Personality-wise, Mizutani exhibits a dorky, klutzy demeanor and often lacks self-confidence, partly fueled by worry that reserve player Shintarō Nishihiro might replace him due to his inconsistent play. Despite this, he maintains an easy-going and approachable nature. Manager Chiyo Shino'oka notes many find him friendly and easy to talk to. He openly enjoys conversations with female peers, displaying a flirtatious side, and frequently compliments fellow players on their physical flexibility.
Mizutani harbors a one-sided romantic interest in manager Chiyo Shino'oka. Unaware of her feelings for Abe, he occasionally shows faint suspicion about her affections for another teammate. He admires pitcher Ren Mihashi, notably during Nishiura's match against Tosei High School where he actively sought to contribute meaningfully and successfully scored a run. He later earned another nickname from teammate Kōsuke Izumi during the Bijōdaisayama game due to a misunderstanding where he interpreted the word "RICE" as "rice" (kome).
Mizutani lives relatively close to school, taking 15 minutes to commute but 30 minutes to return home. He shares the exact height with teammates Kazutoshi Oki and Takaya Abe. In personal trivia, he once described a fantasy scenario involving apprehending a female burglar in his home and threatening to either contact authorities or perform an unspecified "something" as an alternative.
