Description
Ryuta Hoshikawa is a college-aged young man whose defining initial traits are intellectual curiosity and leadership within his science-focused friend group. His background includes visiting the Thomas Edison Museum in New York with friends Patrick and Roberto, encountering an unnamed shaman who delivers a message from Edison's spirit. This experience grants him sudden knowledge to construct Edison's proposed "spirit phone," enabling communication with the deceased.
Using the spirit phone, Ryuta and his friends achieve astral projection into the Spirit World. Throughout this journey, Ryuta develops growing spiritual aptitude. While his companions face limitations accessing higher realms due to their mindsets, Ryuta proves worthy of ascending first to the seventh dimension (Bodhisattva Realm), where Thomas Edison explicitly identifies him as "The Chosen One" destined to guide humanity toward the Eternal Buddha, reframing his quest. He then ascends to the eighth dimension (Tathagata Realm).
His development intensifies upon reaching the ninth dimension (Cosmic Realm). There, visions confirm his past life as Thoth in Atlantis, where Yuko Natsuse lived as his destined partner across lifetimes, solidifying their connection. He also encounters Lord El Cantare and manifestations of his past lives (including Hermes and Buddha), deepening his understanding of his spiritual role.
Ryuta faces significant challenges in the Demonic Realm (Hell) attempting to rescue Patrick and Roberto. Confronted by demonic manifestations of Friedrich Nietzsche (Niches) and Adolf Hitler (Hisler), he exhibits moral conviction by vehemently rejecting Niches' offer to join the demons in creating a "new world" free of divine belief. He actively resists their corruption, chastising Niches for leading people astray. During the climactic battle, he summons and pilots a Hermes-themed mecha to combat Hisler's demonic elephant, Bihimoss. His successful piloting and combat against the demonic forces, aided by Yuko's spiritual support, highlight his transition from an ordinary student to an active agent in the cosmic struggle.
His spiritual journey concludes with a reinforced understanding of his ordained purpose as a guide for humanity toward spiritual truth. Having witnessed the afterlife's structure, the nature of angels and demons, and his own past and future destiny, he fully embraces this role. The experiences across the Spirit World's tiers fundamentally transform him from a curious inventor into a bearer of eternal responsibilities linked to humanity's spiritual evolution.
