Description
Meliodas appears as a short adolescent with messy blond hair, emerald eyes, and a muscular physique, despite being a demon over 3,000 years old. The Dragon symbol of the Sin of Wrath is carved below his left shoulder. His attire evolves from a simple white shirt with a black vest, to armored Holy Knight gear, and later a formal uniform bearing the "Boar Hat" insignia. Following his time in Purgatory, he gains seven permanent scars where his hearts were located and sports a renewed black Demon Mark.
Born the eldest son of the Demon King, Meliodas originally led the elite demon group, the Ten Commandments, entrusted with fragments of his father's power. His Commandment of Love caused those harboring hatred to lose their strength. During the Holy War 3,000 years ago, he fell in love with the goddess Elizabeth. This love led him to betray his clan by killing two fellow Commandments, escalating the war. In retaliation, the Demon King cursed Meliodas with immortality, while the Supreme Deity cursed Elizabeth to die and reincarnate repeatedly, forcing Meliodas to witness her endless death cycle.
Meliodas presents a mellow, playful facade, often expressed through bawdy humor and groping Elizabeth. However, harm to allies or threats to his sword trigger intense rage. Despite his title as the Sin of Wrath, he typically avoids killing, preferring mercy. Traumatic events, like the death of his lover Liz in Danafor, have unleashed his destructive wrath, annihilating the entire kingdom. Using his demonic powers shifts his demeanor toward cold ruthlessness, amplified after Purgatory eroded his emotions. He carries profound guilt over failures, including his inability to protect Danafor and the suffering inflicted on his younger brother Zeldris.
He wields the magic-reflecting ability Full Counter, which rebounds magical attacks with amplified force. His sacred treasure, Lostvayne, is a demon-splitting sword that creates physical clones; each clone splits his power level but can independently use Full Counter. As a high-level demon, he manipulates darkness for offense, defense, flight, and regeneration. Critical transformations include Assault Mode, unleashing his full demonic power while suppressing emotions, and his form as the Demon King's vessel—a tall, long-haired adult with clawlike protrusions.
To break Elizabeth's curse, Meliodas sought to become the new Demon King, absorbing Commandments like Pacifism and disbanding the Seven Deadly Sins. After a temporary alliance with Zeldris—who aimed to free his vampire lover Gelda—Meliodas became the Demon King's vessel but expelled him. While this initially freed Elizabeth, the Demon King possessed Zeldris and restored her curse. In the final battle, Meliodas killed his father and sacrificed his demonic powers to destroy the Commandments permanently. He subsequently married Elizabeth, ruling Liones as king and fathering a son, Tristan.
