Description
Jikaku held the position of head priest at Keiun Temple until his death. He served as the instructor to both Koumyou Sanzo and Goudai Sanzo, reflecting his significant spiritual authority and role as a mentor within the temple. His personality blended an outwardly easy-going and vague demeanor with exceptional combat prowess and courage, exemplified when he single-handedly fought off a host of attackers. His weaknesses included saké, cigarettes, and women.

During a critical juncture in Genjo Sanzo's life, when Sanzo had descended into self-destructive behavior while searching for the stolen Seiten Sutra, Jikaku intervened. Sanzo arrived at Keiun Temple seeking leads on the sutra's location, following directions from the Sanbutsujin (Three Aspects) in exchange for fulfilling their requests. Residing there, Sanzo received crucial guidance from Jikaku, who offered him cigarettes alongside the pivotal philosophical prompt to "raise his head," catalyzing Sanzo's emotional and spiritual realignment.

Following Jikaku's death, Sanzo assumed his former post as director of Keiun Temple. This transition marked the continuation of Jikaku's influence, as Sanzo inherited both his responsibilities and the legacy of his mentorship.
