Bunken Gakushin is a 16-year-old fighter for Kyosho Academy, one of the Three Pillared Gods deemed unmatched across Kanto. She typically appears barefoot in a black kimono, with short shoulder-length black hair. Her personality is cool-headed and clever.

Bunken first participates in the Three Pillared Gods' attack on Yoshu Academy, easily overpowering the defenders. Later, witnessing Koumei's fight against Kan-u, she intervenes when Kan-u gains the upper hand. Demonstrating her strategic mind, Bunken forces Kan-u's surrender by threatening to execute Gentoku rather than engaging in direct combat.

During Kan-u's interrogation, Bunken employs her unique ability: reading memories and viewing an individual's magatama through physical contact, specifically French kissing. While searching Kan-u's mind, she experiences a traumatic vision of Kan-u's ancestor committing a brutal act of violence. This causes Bunken severe psychological distress, incapacitating her for approximately one month. The timing of this mind-reading event differs between manga and anime adaptations.

Bunken reenters the conflict during Kyosho's attempt to secure the Dragon Jade. She targets the combat-weaker Gentoku but is defeated when Kan-u unexpectedly returns and throws her off a roof. Her final appearance shows her meditating under a waterfall with the other Pillared Gods, demonstrating their endurance by withstanding the water's pressure.
