OVA
Description
Jeep, also known as Hakuryu, is a small white dragon resembling a house cat in size, with distinctive red eyes. He possesses a long serpentine neck adorned by a white mane and bat-like wings. This dragon form shifts into an alternate mode: a functional dark green jeep vehicle capable of carrying four passengers. The jeep features a yin-yang symbol on its spare tire cover and side panels, right-side steering, manual transmission, and practical accessories including a water container and collapsible shovel.

Cho Hakkai discovered Jeep weakened in a forest during his cohabitation with Sha Gojyo, bringing him home where he became Hakkai's loyal companion. Initial tension arose between Jeep and Gojyo due to their shared status as "taboo existences," though their relationship later improved. Jeep originated from an experimental fusion of science and youkai magic, resulting in crimson eyes resembling the flying dragons of Houtou Castle.

Serving as the Sanzo party's primary transportation, Jeep endures their chaotic journeys, which include Hakkai's reckless driving, Sanzo's smoking, and frequent fights between Goku and Gojyo. In dragon form, he devours any food—especially meat—which converts into fuel for his vehicle mode; he notably dislikes onions. Beyond transport, he demonstrates protective instincts, searching for endangered Goku and fighting when necessary. He once briefly left the group after mistreatment but returned following an independent encounter with children.

In all official media, Jeep is the reincarnation of Goujun, the Dragon King of the Western Sea and a former commanding officer in Heaven's army. This divine past life connects him to the previous incarnations of other main characters. His dream is to evolve into a camper-like recreational vehicle.

Jeep exhibits unwavering loyalty to Hakkai, often perching on his shoulder. He shares a playful bond with Goku, his closest companion after Hakkai, and shows concern for Goku's safety. His initial dislike for Gojyo stemmed from past-life conflicts between their prior incarnations (Goujun and Kenren), though mutual tolerance eventually developed. Genjo Sanzo maintains a reserved but respectful dynamic with Jeep, acknowledging his transportation role without complaint during rest periods.

Naming discrepancies exist across media: the manga uses "Jeep" as the canonical name, while anime adaptations default to "Hakuryu" (meaning "white dragon") due to trademark restrictions. "Jeep" appeared solely in the introductory OVA, with "Hakuryu" adopted thereafter in animated works, reflecting legal adaptations rather than narrative changes.
