Description
Tarmiel commands within the Stigma alliance as one of the Four Archangels of the Goddess Clan, alongside Ludociel and Sariel. His striking form features three distinct heads: a central ageless face with a golden bowl cut and sharp teeth, a right head resembling an elderly man with a long purple-tinged white beard, and a left head depicting a young man with slicked-back green hair. Six small angelic wings extend from his back, marking him and the Supreme Deity as unique within the Goddess Clan for possessing more than four wings. He typically wears robes adorned with the symbol of the Goddess Clan.
Politeness and gentleness define Tarmiel's demeanor; he speaks with a calm, gentlemanly tone. He exhibits fierce loyalty to comrades, particularly defending Elizabeth's compassionate stance on coexisting with the Demon Clan against Ludociel's opposition. This loyalty extends to his admiration for Mael's kindness and his reluctance to harm former allies, even in combat. Yet, he displays confidence in battle, sometimes mocking opponents and initially underestimating threats like the Ten Commandments.
Tarmiel's history spans over 3,000 years to the Holy War, where he fought alongside fellow Archangels against the Demon Clan. He joined Ludociel's ambush strategy that decimated the demon army, though the Ten Commandments survived. He battled Commandments Derieri and Galand, demonstrating combat prowess while healing injuries. Crucially, he defied Ludociel's orders to kill the Indura-transformed Derieri and Monspeet, instead aiding Sariel in supporting Elizabeth's attempt to save them.
Following the Goddess Clan's sacrifice to seal the Demon Clan, Tarmiel lost his physical body. His spirit inhabited a staff until the modern era, when he resurrected by taking over the body of the deceased monk Arbus (also referenced as Dubs). After healing endangered Holy Knights, he journeyed to Liones to reform Stigma, allying with the Seven Deadly Sins and Holy Knights against the revived Demon Clan. During this time, he manifested surprise at human experiences like alcohol's effects on his vessel.
In combat, Tarmiel wields the Grace "Ocean" bestowed by the Supreme Deity, granting extensive hydrokinetic abilities. He freely generates and manipulates water, creating oceanic environments and dimensional spaces. His techniques include Ark energy blasts, the large-scale destructive Omega Ark, the concentrated Piercing Water Pillar, and the combined technique Enlil no Tenbatsu (Enlil's Judgement) with Sariel to disintegrate targets at a molecular level. A key defensive ability liquefies his body, nullifying physical attacks. The Supreme Deity's divine protection grants him immunity to Commandment curses.
Tarmiel's relationships drive significant actions. He develops deep respect for Elizabeth's compassion, motivating his defiance of Ludociel. His partnership with Sariel involves constant battle coordination, including their combined assault on Estarossa. During the mission to rescue Elizabeth from Estarossa, he allies with King and Derieri. This attachment becomes a vulnerability when confronting Mael, revealed as a corrupted Archangel. Despite understanding the necessity, Tarmiel hesitates to attack Mael due to their past kinship. This hesitation proves fatal, allowing Mael to kill Derieri and mortally wound Sariel before destroying Tarmiel with beams of dark light as he pleaded for Mael to stop.
