Description
Kaname Kugatachi, alias Freya, masters Kugatachi Style jōjutsu, inheriting her family's martial tradition under grandfather Danki Kugatachi's lifelong tutelage. She champions the philosophy that women require weapons to equal men in combat strength, though this belief's specific origin remains undefined.

Tall and dark-skinned, she has short messy brown hair, blue eyes, and a thin scar on her left cheek. Her athletic, well-toned build is distinctly curvaceous. She typically wears a form-fitting light-blue sleeveless shirt, dark blue spandex pants, and an orange leather jacket concealing segments of her collapsible staff, Chigiriki. She later acquires steel arm guards from Shigure Kōsaka.

Initially Ragnarök's Third Fist, she joined to train under Ogata Isshinsai—an unmet objective. During this tenure, she formed and led the Valkyries, an all-female unit sharing her weapon-centric creed. She recruited Kisara Nanjō after rescuing her, fostering a mentor-like bond. This fractured when Kisara abandoned weapons to forge her own style, leaving the Valkyries to become Ragnarök's Eighth Fist.

Stoic yet underpinned by loyalty and compassion, Freya cares for subordinates while adhering to Katsujinken principles, refusing lethal force. She released Kisara without further conflict after her staff shattered in their duel, accepting defeat. She exhibits a pronounced fear of mice, reacting with exaggerated distress, and displays minimal modesty—sleeping topless without discomfort. Occasional naivete emerges, like performing a seductive pose at Kensei Ma's deceptive request during training.

Her combat prowess emphasizes weapon mastery, particularly her customizable staff, which separates for tactical flexibility. She strategically analyzes opponents, adapts techniques mid-fight, and exploits environmental advantages. Though weapon-focused, she maintains competent unarmed combat using staff-inspired strikes. Exceptional strength, speed, and agility enable scaling terrain and mid-air repositioning. She also demonstrates teaching aptitude, training Valkyrie members and dojo students.

Post-Ragnarök's dissolution, she reconciled with Kisara and joined the Shinpaku Alliance upon learning of Yami's threat. Key engagements include battling Captain K in the D of D Tournament, participating in Okinawan missions and Yami data-transport operations, and intervening during Miu Fūrinji's abduction. Yami later kidnapped her to coerce her grandfather's allegiance, but Shinpaku and Shigure rescued her.

Romantically, she showed reserved initial attraction to Ukita, noted by Miu Fūrinji. Later, her interest shifted toward Ikki Takeda, evidenced by a double date and blushing when others assumed they were a couple. After high school, she enrolled in college as a first-year student while teaching at her family's dojo.
