Description
Miu Furinji is the main female protagonist of the story. She is a descendant of the Furinji and Kuremisago clans, two tribes historically known for their physical superiority. She is the granddaughter of Hayato Furinji, the elder of the Ryozanpaku dojo and an undefeated martial artist, and the daughter of Saiga Furinji, a leader of the opposing Yami organization. Miu is a seventeen-year-old high school student who transferred to Koryou High School. She manages the daily affairs of the Ryozanpaku dojo.

In terms of background, Miu was raised largely in isolation by her grandfather from a young age, accompanying him on his missions and receiving martial arts training since childhood. This upbringing left her with a degree of social naivety and an inability to form friendships easily. Before transferring, she attended a school where other girls were jealous of her looks, which led her to downplay her appearance by wearing glasses and styling her hair in a plain braid.

Personality-wise, Miu is gentle, kind, humble, and fiercely protective. She has a deep fondness for kittens and becomes openly hostile toward anyone who harms an innocent animal. Despite her combat prowess, she is socially inept and craves normal friendships. Her primary motivation is to protect the weak and bring about peace. She is also driven by a desire to forge a normal life beyond martial arts, partly through her connection with Kenichi.

Her role in the story is that of a deuteragonist and the mutual love interest of the protagonist, Kenichi Shirahama. She is the one who encourages Kenichi to begin training at Ryozanpaku and remains his closest ally throughout the series. She serves as both a skilled fighter and a moral anchor, balancing her lethal abilities with a gentle nature. As the granddaughter of the dojo’s elder, she is also a central figure in the conflict between Ryozanpaku (which follows the principle of sparing opponents, katsujin-ken) and Yami (which embraces lethal methods, satsujin-ken).

Key relationships include her close bond with Kenichi, which gradually develops into a deep, mutual romantic attachment. She is fiercely loyal to her grandfather Hayato, who raised and trained her. Her father Saiga leads the antagonist group Yami, creating personal conflict for Miu as she grapples with her family's opposing ideologies. She also has respectful but firm relationships with the other masters of Ryozanpaku, often acting as a calming influence.

Character development is significant. Initially isolated and socially awkward, Miu slowly opens up and forms genuine friendships, largely thanks to Kenichi. During the Yami arc, she confronts the dangerous legacy of her family and fights to protect those she cares about. This journey forces her to reconcile her identity as a martial arts prodigy with her wish for a normal life, ultimately building her confidence and solidifying her role as a protector.

Notable abilities include being a highly skilled martial artist trained from childhood by her grandfather. Her fighting style, known as Furinji Style Martial Arts, emphasizes acrobatics and powerful kicks. She possesses remarkable speed and agility that rival many masters. Her reflexes are so honed that she instinctively counters anyone who sneaks up behind her. While her exact skill level is not clearly defined, Kenichi has never been able to land a hit on her in a sparring match, though his own self-imposed rule of never striking women may contribute. She continues to develop her martial arts expertise throughout the series, facing formidable opponents from Yomi and Yami.
