Description
Kazuto Tokino defies his family's objections to operate their financially struggling traditional bathhouse, demonstrating determination and responsibility in preserving this legacy over practicality. His life changes irrevocably when Princess Valkyrie of Valhalla crashes her spaceship into the bathhouse, mortally wounding him. To save him, Valkyrie transfers half her soul, transforming her into an eight-year-old child with a corresponding mentality and inextricably linking their fates.
Initially acting as Valkyrie's guardian and parental figure, Kazuto manages her energetic, sometimes destructive behavior while ensuring her safety. Their relationship evolves beyond caretaking as romantic feelings develop, despite Valkyrie’s physical appearance. Kissing temporarily restores Valkyrie to her adult form when their emotions synchronize, allowing Kazuto brief interactions with her true self, though these transformations remain fleeting due to her incomplete soul. Kazuto struggles with the distance from the adult Valkyrie he rarely encounters but gradually learns to love her irrespective of her form, embracing both her childlike and mature identities.
His commitment deepens when Valkyrie’s royal family formally recognizes him as her fiancé. This engagement faces complications from Valkyrie’s unstable transformations and external pressures, including political schemes from Valhalla and interpersonal conflicts on Earth, which Kazuto navigates with patience and loyalty, dedicated to their future.
Kazuto remains unaware of the romantic feelings harbored by his childhood friend and neighbor, Akina Nanamura, despite frequent interactions and others' teasing. He views Akina platonically, focusing his romantic devotion solely on Valkyrie. When Akina seals the powers of Valkyrie’s rival princess, Hydra, after Hydra's crash landing, Kazuto becomes involved in managing tensions between Akina and the child-form Hydra, though his role remains secondary to their dynamic.
Throughout subsequent conflicts—including visits from Valkyrie’s royal associates, galactic pirates, and Hydra’s schemes—Kazuto prioritizes protecting Valkyrie and maintaining the bathhouse as a stable environment. He consistently protects those close to him, shielding Valkyrie from forced returns to Valhalla and intervening when Valkyrie’s maid, Sanada, attempts to transform Akina into a brainwashed catgirl. His resilience and kindness gradually earn respect from both human and alien characters, including Valkyrie’s family.
In later events, including Valkyrie’s temporary splitting into separate older and younger selves due to a magical artifact mishap, Kazuto adapts to these complexities while reaffirming his bond with her core identity. His role as fiancé remains central through the conclusion of the series, with his established traits of loyalty and steadfastness persisting through the Banquet of Time, Dreams, and Galaxies arc.
