Kirino Konosaka is a first-year student at Shimano Gakuen and a childhood friend of the protagonist, Haruhiko Amami, living next door to him. Their relationship is exceptionally close, marked by her morning routine of visiting his house to wake him and prepare his breakfast. Although she possesses a timid nature that makes her an easy target for his teasing, she harbors longstanding romantic feelings for him and does not genuinely mind these interactions.

She lives in the town of Narasakicho, a place noted for a rainbow that remains permanently fixed in the sky. A central element of life there is the "Gift," a unique power all residents possess that allows an individual to grant one miracle in their lifetime. For the Gift to function correctly, the feelings of both the giver and the receiver must be mutual. A distorted Gift, resulting from unshared feelings, causes disruption and manifests as a black streak within the town's rainbow.
