Description
Mami Sakura attends Tobita Junior High School in Tokyo's suburban Sama Hill area. She unexpectedly gains supernatural powers: telekinesis with cellular-level precision, telepathy, levitation capable of affecting multiple objects, and involuntary teleportation triggered by approaching projectiles, causing collisions. Her childhood friend and classmate, Kazuo Takahata, creates a heart-shaped brooch "Teleportation Gun" that shoots tiny marbles, enabling her to control teleportation.

Mami secretly uses these abilities to detect and assist people in distress, hiding them from her parents with Kazuo's help. Kazuo reveals her French ancestry through her paternal grandmother, including ancestors persecuted as witches, deterring her from family disclosure. Her father, artist Juurou Sakura, frequently uses her as a nude model for paintings in exchange for an increased allowance, referring to her as "Mami-kō" with mild disdain. Her mother, Naoko Sakura, works at the foreign desk of the Asauri Newspaper and disapproves of Mami's academic performance and domestic shortcomings, particularly her poor cooking skills, a recurring source of humor.

Impulsive yet driven by a strong sense of justice, Mami is characterized as bright but meddlesome, often acting naively with altruistic intentions. She employs her powers to intervene in situations like disrupting delinquent attacks or covertly aiding Kazuo's baseball games. Her telepathy accesses thoughts and dreams. Her pet dog, Konpoko, resembling a raccoon dog or fox, comprehends human speech and reacts negatively when mistaken for non-canine species.

In the film "Hoshizora no Dancing Doll," Mami collaborates with a puppeteer troupe to comfort young Tomoko Mizutani, grieving her mother's death and a lost doll. She uses telekinesis to animate puppets during a performance reinforcing Tomoko's bond with her father. Concurrently, she confronts businessmen attempting to demolish the troupe's shed, thwarting their efforts. When the demoralized troupe disbands, Mami intervenes to prevent member Hideki Kubo from abandoning puppetry. She manipulates puppets in a park to express their "desire" to continue storytelling, leading to Hideki's reconciliation with Tomoko and the troupe's revival, highlighting her commitment to community support and creative problem-solving.

Mami has red hair. Her standard attire is a white shirt with a sailor neckerchief, light blue scarf, blue skirt, white socks, and black shoes. When actively using her powers, she wears a short-sleeved white shirt, blue dress, white socks, and black shoes.
