Description
Ebisu no Zukin is an actor in the traveling Yuyama Troupe kabuki group. His history began as an apprentice in the household of Kakunojo Yuyama's parents, operators of a shipping and wholesale business. During the Ansei Purges, Hario Genba murdered Kakunojo's parents and set their home ablaze. Ebisu suffered severe burns across his face and body while protecting the young Kakunojo during the attack, resulting in him being permanently entirely bandaged.
After the fire, Ebisu joined Kakunojo and Zagashira (who rescued Kakunojo) to form the Yuyama Troupe. The troupe devoted itself to traveling Japan, seeking Hario Genba to avenge Kakunojo's parents. Ebisu retained a distinct memory of Hario's face from that night, allowing him to recognize the assailant years later at an underground auction within the Yokohama Shanghai Club. This discovery led him to alert the troupe and track Hario's movements.
Within the troupe, Ebisu performs general acting duties alongside members Shiranui Kozo and Kakashi no Keishin. His physical traits include gray eyes and gray hair reaching his neck, though these remain hidden beneath his bandages. Ebisu remains a constant presence within the troupe throughout the narrative, supporting its objectives and performances. His role and personal journey show no significant evolution across the series. The bandages stand as a permanent reminder of his traumatic past and commitment to Kakunojo's cause.
