Description
Kojirô is a young ninja of the Fuma clan, a lineage historically serving the Hojo family since the Sengoku period. The clan persists secretly within a remote village in the modern era. As a Fuma member, he possesses extraordinary abilities including heightened senses, superhuman speed, and agility, enabling feats like running thousands of miles daily and detecting minute sounds over vast distances. His primary weapon is a bokken, a wooden sword wielded with exceptional skill to perform superhuman techniques that defy conventional physics.
Dispatched by his clan to Hakuo Academy at the request of acting principal Himeko Hojo, Kojirô accepts this mission as an extension of his clan's ancient duty to the Hojo family. Himeko sought aid against rival school Seishikan, which employs the Yasha clan to intimidate and forcibly transfer students. At Hakuo, Kojirô develops romantic feelings for Himeko, adding personal motivation to his protective role. He also befriends Erina Asuka, the hospitalized sister of key antagonist Musashi Asuka.
Kojirô's personality blends youthful enthusiasm with fierce loyalty and determination. He exhibits stubbornness and a strong sense of duty toward his clan members, deeply affected by their losses during the escalating conflict against the Yasha clan. This conflict reignites a centuries-old rivalry, compelling Kojirô and his fellow Fuma ninja into lethal battles where combatants often die shortly after introduction. His initial comical flair shifts toward greater seriousness as the ninja war intensifies.
His combat style revolves around his bokken, supplemented by unique supernatural Fuma techniques. He participates in large-scale confrontations, including the eight-on-nine battles between the Fuma and Yasha clans. While the original narrative offers limited character development, later adaptations expand his emotional range through his relationships with Himeko and Erina, and his reactions to clan casualties. These depict his internal struggles regarding the war's costs, though his core resolve and loyalty remain consistent.
Beyond the initial conflict, Kojirô becomes entangled in the Sacred Sword War, a cosmic struggle between Chaos and Cosmos spanning millennia, where he allies with former enemies like Musashi Asuka. He also confronts internal threats, such as the coup by the New Fuma Clan led by Shimon, forcing him to defend his clan's legacy against betrayal. His role evolves from clan representative to a key warrior in battles determining the balance of cosmic forces and his lineage's survival.
