Description
Based on the stone sculpture of a winged wolf crafted through advanced alchemy by Iyo Takahara and linked to Philosopher's Stone rumors, Gargoyle emerged when won in a Goshiki shopping district lottery by Futaba Yoshinaga. Transported to the Yoshinaga home, the statue revealed sentience and speech, becoming known as "Gar-kun."
Designating himself gatekeeper of the Yoshinaga residence, this guardian entity exhibits unconventional mobility akin to teleportation. His capabilities include generating fire, electricity, and laser beams for defense against perceived threats, from intruders to mail carriers. Gargoyle also uniquely communicates with animals, statues, and humans, acting as an interspecies translator.
Initially, Gargoyle's overzealous protection earned community disapproval. His rigid security enforcement caused friction, especially with Futaba, who disliked the disruption. Gradually, interactions with the Yoshinagas—Kazumi's diplomacy and Futaba's wrestling-inspired challenges—prompted adaptation. Tempering his aggression, he learned to align his duties with familial and community needs, evolving from a household sentry into a recognized guardian of Goshikichō town.
His narrative extends beyond the family, intersecting with other alchemical creations. Key relationships include adversarial clashes with Cherub, the winged lion statue made by Amane Higashimiya, alongside alliances or conflicts with entities like the plant-based mute gargoyle Osiris and the headless robot Dullahan. These interactions, stemming from alchemist rivalries or collaborations, place Gargoyle within a hidden world of artificial beings.
Throughout his development, Gargoyle's core remains unwavering loyalty. He prioritizes the safety of the Yoshinagas and their town, confronting threats ranging from alchemical adversaries to festival chaos. His journey marks a transition from isolation to integration, ultimately symbolizing protection and unity within the community he safeguards.
