Description
Auel Neider functioned as an Extended pilot in the Earth Alliance's Phantom Pain special forces unit under Neo Roanoke's command during the Second Alliance-PLANT War. Raised within the Lodonia lab facility where his mother was a researcher, he endured a brutal super-soldier program targeting Coordinators, leaving profound psychological and physical scars. Extended like Auel demanded constant medical care, suffered drastically shortened lifespans, and were psychologically controlled via "block words." His specific trigger, "mother," could provoke traumatic flashbacks and emotional collapse, as witnessed when he reacted to news of ZAFT's assault on Lodonia lab.
He exhibited a stark duality: casually cheerful and mischievous outside combat, yet descending into extreme brutality and impulsiveness on the battlefield. Maniacal laughter accompanied his killings, contrasting protective instincts shown towards fellow Extended Stella Loussier, whom he defended against threats. His combat prowess encompassed firearms, infiltration, and mobile suit piloting, including the ability to hack and customize suit operating systems within seconds. During the Armory One incident, he infiltrated the PLANT colony with Sting Oakley and Stella Loussier, stole the ZGMF-X31S Abyss Gundam, and unleashed havoc, killing numerous ZAFT soldiers.
His engagements spanned space battles in debris fields and on Junius Seven's remnants, followed by deployment to Earth after the war escalated. There, he clashed with the ZAFT vessel *Minerva*, sinking an accompanying Vosgulov-class submarine. An encounter with Shinn Asuka and Athrun Zala in Diokia occurred without mutual recognition. At the Dardanelles, the Abyss Gundam sustained damage from the Freedom Gundam but underwent rapid repair. Following Stella's capture and memory erasure by Phantom Pain, Auel experienced incomplete amnesia, sensing a loss he couldn't define.
He met his end in the Battle of Crete when Shinn Asuka, piloting the Blast Impulse Gundam, speared the Abyss Gundam's abdomen with a Beam Javelin. The suit plunged into the ocean and exploded, blood-mixed water flooding his helmet confirming his demise. An alternate portrayal in *Gundam SEED Destiny: The Edge* depicts him regaining erased memories of Stella moments before the explosion, recalling her love for the ocean and fish, and expressing sorrow for her perceived death.
Within the Phantom Pain trio alongside Sting Oakley and Stella Loussier, Auel displayed conflicted behavior towards Stella, treating her with contempt or as a weapon—manipulating her using her block word "die"—while also demonstrating underlying concern for her welfare. Sting exhibited visible emotional deterioration after Auel's death. Compilation media such as the *Special Edition* retained his role in events like the Junius Seven operation and Armory One theft, emphasizing his combat actions consistent with the main series narrative.
