Description
Stella Loussier exists as an Extended soldier, an enhanced human forged through surgical procedures and chemical treatments to serve as a living weapon within the Earth Alliance's Phantom Pain unit. Her past harbors severe psychological trauma, likely born from childhood exposure to war, leaving profound mental instability and a fragile psyche. Her personality oscillates between childlike innocence in calm moments—displaying playful, carefree, and empathetic behavior with limited comprehension—and extreme aggression when triggered. This volatility demands regular Phantom Pain psychological conditioning, including memory wipes to erase experiences threatening her combat effectiveness, leading to recurring episodes of déjà vu.

A core element of her conditioning is an intense, manipulated fear of death. Uttering "die" or mentioning mortality provokes a berserk state, exploited by Phantom Pain to sharpen her combat focus. In this state, she becomes highly suggestible, enabling teammates to direct her aggression by claiming targets endanger her survival. Yet this fear can spiral into hallucinations, delusions, or uncontrolled violence against allies and foes alike. Calming her requires intervention from trusted figures or sedation.

As an Extended, Stella possesses enhanced physical and mental reflexes rivaling Coordinators. Her combat proficiency encompasses mobile suit piloting, firearms, and stealth tactics. She notably exhibits the ability to rapidly hack and reprogram mobile suit operating systems to her specifications. These enhancements exact severe physical and psychological costs: constant medical supervision, drug regimens, and specialized equipment are vital for functionality, with her lifespan implied to be drastically shortened by the strain.

During the Second Alliance-PLANT War, Stella pilots multiple mobile suits. She initially steals and operates the ZGMF-X88S Gaia Gundam infiltrating ZAFT's Armory One colony. Later reassigned, she commands the massive GFAS-X1 Destroy Gundam, deploying it for large-scale urban destruction across West-Eurasia culminating in the Battle of Berlin.

Her relationships are marked by dependency and manipulation. She displays deep trust and affection for her Phantom Pain commander, Neo Roanoke, defying orders to protect him. Her most significant bond forms with ZAFT soldier Shinn Asuka after he rescues her from drowning during an accidental Earth encounter and calms her triggered state by promising protection. This attachment persists despite subsequent Phantom Pain memory wipes. Mortally wounded in Berlin after the Destroy Gundam is crippled by Kira Yamato's Freedom Gundam, Stella confesses her love to Shinn before dying in his arms. He buries her body in a lake, vowing vengeance.

After death, Stella manifests to Shinn as a spiritual apparition during the Battle of Messiah, stating she found peace through his influence and implying a future reunion. A year later, her spirit appears again during the Foundation Conflict, repelling an attempt to mind-control Shinn and enabling his victory, establishing her lingering presence as a protective force within his psyche.

The Special Edition adaptations reframe her narrative to emphasize the romantic connection with Shinn, smoothing his later transition to a relationship with Lunamaria Hawke.
