TV-Series
Description
Kiryuu Kaoru began as an inhabitant of Dark Fall, crafted by Akudaikan alongside her sister Michiru to guard the infiltrated Fountain of Sky. Both sisters endured loneliness, finding comfort only in each other. They rescued the spirits Moop and Fuup from peril at the Fountain, an act initially holding little meaning for them.

Tasked with infiltrating Yuunagi Middle School as exchange students, Kaoru and Michiru aimed to destroy Pretty Cure warriors Hyuuga Saki and Mishou Mai by earning their trust. Prolonged interaction, however, led Kaoru to forge genuine friendships with Saki and Mai, creating internal conflict over Dark Fall's destructive mission. Her calm, rational personality contrasted with Michiru's expressiveness, though Kaoru's bluntness sometimes concealed her growing empathy. She typically deferred to Michiru in social situations, later admitting admiration for her sister's communication skills.

Ordered to confront Saki and Mai directly, the sisters chose betrayal, sacrificing themselves to shield the Cures from Akudaikan's fury. This resulted in their apparent destruction and the erasure of others' memories. Following Dark Fall's resurrection of past villains using the Fairy Carafe, Princess Filia and the spirits facilitated Kaoru and Michiru's revival. They allied with Saki and Mai against Akudaikan at the Sky Tree. The World Tree empowered Moop and Fuup, enabling Kaoru to temporarily inherit the Power of the Wind and transform into Cure Windy. In this form, she joined Cure Bloom, Cure Egret, and Cure Bright (Michiru) to execute the Spiral Heart Splash Star attack, defeating Goyan and ending Dark Fall's threat. The spirits of the Land of Greenery subsequently revived Kaoru and Michiru, granting them permanent residence there.

Years later, Kaoru and Michiru founded the internet channel Dark Night Light. Kaoru adopted the persona "Night," depicted as a humanoid cat-like figure with pale blue fur and simplified human clothing. The channel captured global attention by showcasing beautiful, uplifting content like following stray cats or highlighting local restaurants. During a crisis involving entities called Shadows, Kaoru and Michiru publicly coined the term "Shadow" and provided real-time tracking and information via broadcasts. They offered indirect support to former allies, promoting PANPAKA Pan Bakery—Saki's family business—and amplifying a new song by Urara and Syrup.

When Shadows threatened Tokyo, Kaoru and Michiru intervened directly, rescuing Saki and Mai at the Sky Tree. They revealed their non-human origins and Dark Fall history to the Pretty Cure group, explaining their channel's purpose was to help people appreciate the world's preciousness. Analyzing Shadow appearances, they pinpointed a clock tower as the epicenter and later livestreamed a call for public aid during the final battle. Post-crisis, they affirmed belief in humanity's hope while acknowledging persistent negative attitudes.

Kaoru sustained close bonds throughout her life, sharing an unbreakable sisterly connection with Michiru. She developed affection for Saki's younger sister Minori, expressing concern for Minori's emotional well-being during perilous times. Her relationship with spirits Moop and Fuup deepened over time, rooted in their shared history of rescue and empowerment.

Her surname "Kiryuu" combines "kiri" (fog/mist) and "yuu" (pure), while her given name "Kaoru" means "scent," aligning with her wind association and Cure Windy identity. As Cure Windy, she wielded wind-based powers, clad in a flowing pale cyan garment adorned with wind-like symbols. She was the franchise's first character to become a Cure by inheriting powers from an existing Cure (Mai's Cure Egret) and, alongside Cure Bright, remains excluded from official Pretty Cure All Stars franchise recognition.
