Ratchet rules Mecha Island, also known as Karakuri Island, as its feudal lord and serves as the primary antagonist in the seventh One Piece film. He possesses a thin build, light brown hair parted unevenly, and narrow brown eyes contributing to a sinister look. His attire consists of yellow overalls exposing his chest and a thick black scarf decorated with red gear patterns. Distinctive round, light orange glasses with built-in windshield wipers underscore his connection to machinery.
After his inventor father's death in childhood, Ratchet developed an intense fixation on machinery and invention. This obsession drove him to create numerous mechanized defenses and automated systems across Mecha Island, including robotic maids and combat mechas. While he views himself as a visionary ruler, his mother consistently dismisses his inventions as impractical junk, creating familial tension. Though he rescues her from perceived pirate threats, he frequently uses inventions to preempt her criticisms.
Ratchet's intellectual focus lies in advanced engineering, demonstrated by his diverse arsenal of mechas: the turtle-shaped transport Zogame-kun 5-go, featuring a throne and clockwork key; the initial combat suit Tetsujin-kun 28-go equipped with projectile drills and magnetic climbing gear; the amphibious but incomplete boat-modeled Tetsujin-kun 32-go with cannons and slow-moving legs; and his most formidable, yet unfinished creation, the enormous Super Zogame-kun. This turtle-based machine required external power and boasted cannons, projectile claws, and drills.
Personality-wise, Ratchet exhibits extreme arrogance regarding his scientific genius but suffers severe deficiencies in practical wisdom. He struggles with basic problem-solving, misinterpreting the island's lake-draining riddle by proposing collective drinking over mechanical solutions. His ambitions for global domination stem from overconfidence in his inventions, yet he habitually underestimates adversaries, leading to repeated defeats and defining him as booksmart yet ineffectual.
His scheme manipulates the Straw Hat Pirates into deciphering the "Yurari Uta," a folk song containing clues to awaken the dormant giant turtle forming the island's foundation. After its activation, Ratchet attempts to seize control using a mechanical castle to harness its power for world conquest. His plans unravel when Luffy inadvertently activates Gear 2 during their confrontation, obliterating the Super Zogame-kun mecha. Post-defeat, Ratchet endures a comedic spanking from his mother as punishment, with no lasting repercussions beyond this humiliation.
Outside this film, Ratchet makes a non-speaking cameo during the Pirates Festival in "One Piece: Stampede."
