Description
Elise Housen is a freshman at Nadesico Academy, orphaned by a car accident that left her traumatized with an intense aversion to the color red, reminiscent of blood. This trauma causes her physical pain when encountering red food or attempting to use red pigments in her art, significantly hindering her natural artistic talent. Following the accident, she enters the foster care of her older cousin, Hiroki Kamikura, who becomes her legal guardian and with whom she resides.
Over time, Elise develops strong romantic feelings for Hiroki. She confesses these feelings but is rejected, as Hiroki views her solely as a younger sister. This rejection, compounded by Hiroki's rekindled closeness with his childhood friend Kiri Kikyo, creates emotional distance and causes Elise significant distress as she struggles with his perceived detachment. Her artistic journey intertwines with these emotional struggles. Encouraged by peers like art club president Mami Takeuchi, Elise gradually confronts her fear of the color red. A pivotal moment occurs when she creates a painting featuring red angels specifically for Hiroki, symbolizing her emotional breakthrough and determination to overcome her trauma.
Faced with ongoing emotional pain and believing Hiroki cannot reciprocate her feelings, Elise decides to accept a scholarship to study art in Paris, planning to live with a relative there. As she prepares to leave, Hiroki experiences a change of heart. On Christmas Day, he rushes to the airport to intercept her departure. He presents her with his own painting, depicting blue angels, which serves as a declaration of his true romantic feelings, halting her move to France and resolving their central conflict.
Beyond her relationship with Hiroki, Elise interacts with other academy characters. She forms friendships, notably helping Tomoko Fujinami overcome her social isolation. Classmate Shouta Hashidsume develops a crush on her and confesses during a camping trip, but Elise rejects his advances. Her presence within the art club and among her peers highlights her role in the academy's social structure.
