Description
Kanashi Hokke is the fourth of five sisters in the Hokke family, placing her as the second youngest. The sisters endure poverty after being abandoned by their parents, who later died. Their father, a former combatant for an evil organization, left a final wish for his daughters to become "excellent evil." Guided by the imp Akumako, whom they unsealed from a vase, the sisters formed the magical girl team Gedou Otame Tai to pursue this goal.
Inherently kind and caring, Kanashi and her sisters possess personalities that clash with their villainous aspirations. This innate goodness consistently causes their evil schemes to backfire, producing unintended positive outcomes that lead others to mistakenly perceive them as heroes. As part of the team, Kanashi wields wood-based elemental magic. Her powers activate during the sisters' magical girl transformations, which parody genre conventions.
A recurring visual trait contrasts Kanashi's physical appearance with her actual age. While an elementary school student, her design features a more mature and well-endowed physique. Light romantic subplots are associated with her character, suggested by the soundtrack track "Kanashi no Awai Koigokoro" (Kanashi's Faint Love Feelings), indicating themes of youthful crushes or innocent romantic interests.
Kanashi operates alongside her sisters: Otone (eldest, water magic), Maika (second eldest, fire magic), Yoku (middle sister, earth magic), and Utano (youngest, light magic). Their collective efforts to fulfill their father's wish involve schemes that invariably fail due to their innate goodness, reinforcing the theme of mistaken identity. Despite their villainous aspirations, the sisters remain content when their actions inadvertently help others.
Kanashi's role remains consistent as part of the ensemble throughout the anime's 13-episode run. No significant character evolution or backstory expansion beyond this, nor any spin-offs, films, or other media elaborating on her individual narrative, is documented.
