Colin MacLeod was born in AD 92 in Roman Britain, a Scottish barbarian leading his clan against Roman invasion. He met his first death in AD 125 during a battle against General Marcus Octavius, whose forces slaughtered Colin's clan. After attempting to negotiate for her husband's life, Colin's wife, Moya, faced crucifixion by Marcus. This trauma forged Colin's oath of vengeance against Marcus.
His body healed at Stonehenge following his first death, where he encountered the druidic spirit Amergan. Amergan revealed Colin's immortality and the rules of the Game, becoming his lifelong mentor and conscience. Despite this guidance, Colin dedicated his existence to pursuing Marcus across centuries.
Their immortal conflict spanned multiple eras: Colin led barbarians to sack Rome in AD 476; he fought alongside Clan MacLeod in 11th-century Scotland, earning the surname MacLeod posthumously after dying in battle; he dueled Marcus in 16th-century Japan; and opposed him as an Allied soldier in both World Wars. During a WWII aerial battle, their fight ended on holy ground within a church, where Marcus admonished Colin for wasting his immortality on vengeance.
In 2187, Colin tracked Marcus to a post-apocalyptic New York City. Marcus ruled from a fortified tower and planned to unleash a lethal virus to eradicate "barbarians" and establish a new empire. Colin allied with survivors, including Dahlia, who reminded him of Moya. Infiltrating Marcus's stronghold, Colin dueled him one final time. He beheaded Marcus, absorbing his Quickening and destroying the virus.
Victory left Colin feeling emptiness without his purpose of vengeance. Amergan revealed Dahlia would reincarnate, offering Colin hope for a new beginning. He departed New York to seek meaning beyond revenge.
