Description
Miyako Gotokuji is a 13-year-old student living in Tokyo City with her grandmother, Kiyoko Gotokuji, while her parents reside in Milan. This arrangement fostered her independence and skill in domestic tasks like cooking and cleaning, though she often spends excessive time perfecting them.
Her superhero identity, Rolling Bubbles, began when a white Chemical Z ray struck her as she shielded a child. This granted her transformation abilities and a signature bubble wand weapon. Her attacks are "Catcher," "Poyon," "Boyon," "Mumble Mumble Swing Desu Wa," "Balloon Nebaneba," "Shabon Freedom" (a bubble technique named after a significant childhood memory), "Energy Ball," "Popper," "Bubble Popper," and "Bubbles Finish." Initially, she mistakenly used the wand as a throwing weapon before learning its bubble-generating purpose. Waving or blowing into the wand creates protective or offensive bubbles. She uniquely communicates with animals among her teammates. Later developments revealed latent powers: generating multiple electricity-based white lights and healing those afflicted by Black Z rays or Him's black particles.
Miyako possesses a calm, kind, and polite demeanor, frequently mediating team conflicts. She ends sentences with "desu wa" and consistently uses honorifics. Despite her generally mature disposition, moments of naivete surface, particularly about her superpowers, and she reacts to situations slower than others. She strongly dislikes crying to achieve goals and becomes angered when provoked. Her interests center heavily on fashion; she shops frequently, researches clothing brands, and reads fashion magazines, aspiring to become a fashion designer. This passion, combined with her appearance, contributes to her school popularity, where she receives many love letters but gently declines admirers due to her longstanding affection for Takaaki "Taka-chan" Ayagai.
Her connection to Takaaki stems from a childhood incident at age six, when boys tried to take over a playground for soccer. One boy pushed her, injuring her knee, prompting Takaaki to defend her despite his own weakness. He then cheered her and her friends with special bubbles called "shabon freedom," leading Miyako to develop feelings for him. They promised to meet again before parting. This memory resurfaces when she encounters bubbles, reinforcing her devotion.
In civilian life, Miyako has fair skin, baby blue eyes, and blonde hair styled with neat bangs, two thin curls above her ears, and typically curled pigtails secured by a sky-blue hair clip. She uses curlers (three or four balls per pigtail) while sleeping. Her standard attire is a white long-sleeved shirt with a blue tie, a sideways-positioned white belt featuring gold buckles and the PPGZ insignia, black Mary Jane shoes, and two socks. Her transformation costume features a blue spaghetti-strap top, a light vest, black gloves, blue boots, and the same distinctive belt.
Her relationships include viewing teammates as close friends: she admires Kaoru Matsubara's strength and shares a bond with Momoko Akatsutsumi over interests. She acts maternally toward Ken Kitazawa, Professor Utonium's son. Her cherished possessions include a stuffed toy octopus named Octi. Her favorite food is meatballs, often in her lunchboxes.
Her character development includes realizing her dream to pursue fashion design, revealed in the final episodes. Her journey also involves uncovering the full extent of her powers, moving beyond initial misunderstandings to master her abilities, including the pivotal discovery of her healing and electrical powers later in the series.
