Description
Hideto Washiya serves as a First Lieutenant within the Principality of Zeon’s Technical Evaluation Division, appearing primarily in the *Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO* series. His irreverent, casual attitude belies his role as a test pilot and tactical officer assigned to the Jotunheim, a warship dedicated to assessing experimental weaponry during the One Year War.
At the Battle of Loum, Hideto supports Engineering Lieutenant Oliver May by piloting a shuttle to collect targeting data for the QCX-76A Jormungand, a prototype plasma cannon designed to cripple Earth Federation forces. Though the engagement exposes artillery’s waning strategic relevance against mobile suits, Hideto later engages in high-risk combat simulations using the EMS-10 Zudah, a high-speed mobile suit notorious for catastrophic mechanical failures. When a fellow pilot’s Zudah disintegrates mid-test, the incident starkly highlights the dangers of prototype technology. Hideto further proves his adaptability by spearheading rescue operations for Zeon forces stranded in orbit.
Prior to the Federation’s Jaburo offensive, he partners with Werner Holbein to deploy the submersible MSM-07Di Ze’Gok against enemy warships. Mission failure due to targeting errors drives Hideto to assist subsequent Zudah sorties, ensuring critical combat data retrieval. During the Federation’s assault on A Baoa Qu, he defends the Jotunheim while Oliver pilots the MA-05Ad Big Rang, coordinating with Monique Cadillac and Herbert von Kuspen to inflict significant Federation losses.
After Zeon’s collapse, Hideto evacuates to Axis with Monique and Oliver. During Operation Stardust, the trio collaborates with Delaz’s forces to gather intelligence on the Neue Ziel mobile armor, uncovering its reactor instability through encounters with Anaheim engineer Nina Purpleton. Despite Axis leadership’s restrictions, Hideto pilots a Zudah to shield an Axis vessel during the conflict. Witnessing the colony drop and the Gwaden’s capture, he withdraws to Axis with his comrades.
