Description
Nanette holds the prestigious position of lady's maid to Dorothea Molders, ranking above housemaids like Adele and wearing distinct attire. She rapidly earned Dorothea's full trust. However, this trust is endangered by her secret romantic involvement with Randolph "Randy," a gentleman or nobleman. Nanette displays open hostility towards Emma, frequently making derogatory remarks about Emma's perceived lack of special qualities despite Emma receiving favor from their employer. To gift Randolph, Nanette steals household items, including a fan. When the thefts are discovered, she falsely implicates Emma, attempting to shift the blame.

After Hans retrieves the stolen fan from Randolph's girlfriend in town, exposing Nanette's guilt, the household staff confronts her. Head servant Wieck dismisses her for theft, while Emma receives a reprimand for not reporting the incident sooner. Facing ruin after her dismissal, Nanette attempts suicide by consuming poison. Emma intervenes, knocking the poison from her hand and saving her life despite Nanette's prior actions against her. Emma then advocates for Nanette, persuading Wieck to secure her alternative employment. As a consequence of the theft, Nanette accepts a new position at a significantly reduced rank, losing her status as a lady's maid.
