Description
Sota Higurashi is Kagome Higurashi's younger brother. His father died in a car accident before his birth, when Kagome was four, leading the family to move into the Higurashi Shrine. He was raised there by his mother, grandfather, and sister, alongside their cat Buyo.

As a child, Sota enjoyed soccer and time with friends. He was perceptive, recognizing early the romantic connection between Kagome and Inuyasha based on Inuyasha's care during Kagome's illnesses and her frequent school absences. Sota feared the dark, hesitating to enter the well house or sleep alone after a shrine fire. Despite fears, he demonstrated loyalty, such as continuing to visit his comatose friend Satoru when others stopped. His relationship with Kagome involved typical sibling dynamics, including moments of annoyance balanced by mutual protection and pride. He viewed Inuyasha as an older brother figure and hero, seeking love advice and noting their shared experience of never knowing their fathers.

Three years after Kagome permanently moved to the feudal era, Sota, now in junior high school, explained her absence to friends as marriage shortly after high school graduation. He continued residing at the shrine with his mother and grandfather during adolescence.

As an adult, Sota encountered a four-year-old girl named Towa in the modern era. Recognizing her feudal-era clothing, he deduced her origins were similar to Inuyasha's and offered help in her search for her twin sister, despite the unlikelihood. He formally adopted Towa. Later, he married a musician named Moe, and they had a biological daughter, Mei, partly to provide Towa with a sister. The family, including Towa, lived in an apartment, not the Higurashi Shrine. Sota reunited with Inuyasha and Kagome's daughter, Moroha, recognizing her through familial resemblance, and hosted her and Setsuna (Towa's twin) at his apartment.

Sota's perceptiveness persisted; he immediately identified Towa as a half-demon and understood she required training. He exhibited maturity, reassurance, and confidence, raising Towa from age four while navigating her supernatural heritage. Towa regarded him as her father and took the Higurashi surname. His marriage to Moe was characterized by trust, as she accepted his stories about Kagome and Inuyasha and welcomed Moroha and Setsuna. Sota maintained a typical father-daughter bond with Mei, who was distraught when Towa departed. He showed indulgence toward Moroha, forgiving her significant credit card charges. Sota did not inherit stewardship of the Higurashi Shrine, opting for independent family life with Moe, Mei, and Towa in their apartment.
