Description
Driven by vengeance after the fox hunter Akuemon killed her mother, the young vixen Rizu transforms into the human woman Kuzunoha. She assumes the identity of Akuemon's recently departed wife, who left behind an infant son. This guise allows her to infiltrate his life, monitor his hunting activities, and warn her fox kin of danger. While her quest began in vengeance, her interactions with Akuemon unexpectedly foster genuine affection and love. Switching between human and fox forms to care for the baby, she develops maternal feelings.

Over time, Rizu's influence softens Akuemon's violent nature, persuading him to abandon fox hunting. Despite their deepening bond, she ultimately returns to her fox community, leaving both Akuemon and the child behind. Her departure marks a turning point: Akuemon renounces hunting and lives in solitude near a temple. The child she helped raise, implied to be Abe no Seimei, grows into a renowned Shinto wizard. Rizu's legacy lies in spanning human and supernatural worlds, transforming vengeance into compassion and altering the fates of those around her. Her actions blend strategic cunning with emotional depth, cementing her pivotal role in the folk narrative's themes of love and redemption.
