Gran Bruce, alias Aquatic Terror Gran Bruce, antagonizes the Viewtiful Joe universe. A shark-like member of the villainous organization Jadow, he ironically holds the title "Chief Staff" of Jadow Central Intelligence while consistently displaying a profound lack of intellect. He frequently stumbles over his words and unintentionally leaks vital secrets to his foes. His primary mission emerges when Jadow targets the ocean. Sent to the Underwater City of Muu, he plants a powerful bomb designed to flood the city by raising water levels. He commits a critical error by sending a plan outline featuring a crude drawing to fellow agent Hulk Davidson. Viewtiful Joe defeats Davidson, discovers the plans, and the childish sketch enables Joe to understand and disarm the bomb. Confronting Joe near submarines, Gran Bruce accidentally reveals the Orca submarine provides access to Jadow's hideout. When Joe points out the slip, Bruce tries to retract it but immediately discloses Jadow's broader plan: capturing Silvia to escape Movieland and conquer the universe. Only after Joe highlights this second mistake does Bruce realize his blunder. Provoked by Joe calling him an idiot, Bruce attacks. Their battle shifts dynamically between underwater and land, ending in Bruce's defeat. He attempts a final statement before vanishing in an explosion, leaving it unfinished. When Silvia disarms the Muu bomb, Gran Bruce confronts her. Noticing she is female, he adopts polite manners and attempts to ask her out, mistakenly saying "danish" before correcting to "date." He compliments his own sleek appearance and pleads for her company. After Silvia rejects him and calls him a bozo, Bruce accuses her of toying with his feelings. Misinterpreting her agreement to be his "dance partner" as acceptance, he is delighted, only to discover the "dance" is a battle. Defeated again, he expresses happiness before exploding. Silvia later clarifies she understood his intentions all along and rejected them, affirming her loyalty to Joe. In the anime adaptation, Gran Bruce speaks with a distinct Australian accent and exhibits higher intelligence than his game counterpart. Alongside Hulk Davidson and Charles The Third, he is dismissed from Jadow for repeated failures against Viewtiful Joe. The trio is subsequently recruited by the rival organization Gedow. Between leaving Jadow and joining Gedow, Gran Bruce operates a small fish-selling stand. In combat, Gran Bruce employs aquatic-themed attacks, fighting effectively underwater or on land. His offensive moves include aerial charges, powerful bites that trap opponents (requiring them to struggle free), and tail swipes generating whirlwinds—significantly larger underwater. He manipulates water levels in his battlefield, deploys sea mines, and regurgitates various objects, including robotic fish that function as projectiles or homing devices. Effective tactics exploit his vulnerability after a spinning attack, evade his tracking bite by precise jumping, and interrupt his attempts to heal or summon mines. Placing mines strategically can cause him to bite them, allowing slowed, zoomed attacks to maximize damage during the ensuing explosion. Trivia notes his name directly references the shark in *Jaws*. In the Gamecube version of the first game, one object he regurgitates is a Gamecube console. He also spits out a car fender with a license plate, likely referencing a similar scene in *Jaws*. Creating explosions inside his mouth may parallel the climax of the first *Jaws* film. Small statues depicting him appear on a Japanese castle roof in *Viewtiful Joe 2*.
