Description
Joseph Malkovich, a former mob boss, orchestrates criminal ventures from the shadows after fleeing Alcatraz upon learning of the legendary Bulls Eye jewel—a gem surpassing diamonds in hardness and emeralds in brilliance. His operations rely on loyal henchmen and Dorcrus, a butler skilled in martial arts. Malkovich obscures his face during dealings, often shrouded in darkness or partial concealment, and chain-smokes Gauloises cigarettes, a habit reflecting his idolization of actor Jean Gabin.
To claim the Bulls Eye, he kidnaps Fujiko Mine, securing her compliance with an explosive necklace and blackmailing Lupin III into retrieving the jewel. Yet his ambitions stretch further: he covets the Lupin Collection, a secret archive of the thief’s stolen artifacts. Posing as Fujiko’s ally, he anticipates her duplicity, exploiting her to uncover the collection’s location. Unbeknownst to his rivals, he monitors their movements through a micro-transmitter embedded in the jewel, surveilling them via satellite.
Malkovich taunts Lupin with psychological warfare, ridiculing his defiance and fabricating scenarios to gauge his loyalty. He deploys fighters like Hakuryū to assault Lupin, dismissing the thief’s capacity to retaliate. During a climactic clash at Mosquito Village, Malkovich closes in on the Lupin Collection, only to be outwitted by corrupt Interpol inspector Brian Murphy. Betrayed mid-conflict, Murphy guns him down, framing Lupin for the killing. Malkovich’s demise leaves his final threat eternally unspoken.
His past intertwines with Catherine Lambert, a slain associate whose daughter Becky hunts him for vengeance. Ruthless pragmatism defines him—he eliminates obstacles like Catherine and discards allies without hesitation. Though cunning, his arrogance and manipulative tactics prove fatal as Lupin, Fujiko, and Murphy unravel his schemes, each exploiting his overconfidence to ensure his end.
