Description
Coud Van Giruet, known as Cou, spent his earliest years orphaned on the streets. At age five, the leader of the Red Lynx sky pirates plucked him from that life, becoming a father figure who instilled a core value: protecting the vulnerable. Raised exclusively among men aboard the Red Lynx airship, Cou developed pronounced shyness and awkwardness around women. His initial aspirations centered solely on earning respect as a sky pirate.

This changed during a raid when he discovered Reverie Metherlence (Ren) sealed within a coffin-like container. Instantly struck by her appearance, Cou felt powerful protective instincts and burgeoning romantic feelings. Safeguarding Ren's journey to the mythical Edel Garden became his driving purpose. This encounter also marked his emergence as a "Pledger," forming a bond with Ren, an Edel Raid capable of transforming into a living weapon through "Reacting." Despite Ren's initial human distrust, Cou treated her as a person, not a tool, gradually winning her trust and cooperation.

Cou possesses spiky blonde-brown hair, blue eyes, and typically wears his Red Lynx jacket over a black shirt. In combat, he wields "Angel," a detachable sickle-like tool attached to a flexible wire, used for mobility or offense when not Reacted with Ren. After pledging with Ren, he gains wind-based techniques: "Euros Loop" for offensive strikes and "Reject Out" for defensive barriers. Early fights suffered from excessive energy drain, requiring training to optimize their synergy. He is notoriously poor at piloting and vehicular control—a frequent source of comedic tension—though this skill sees marginal improvement over time.

His character evolves significantly. Early naiveté gives way to resilience facing groups like the Edel Raid protectors Arc Aile and the antagonistic Chaos Choir. While protecting Ren remains central, he eventually develops an independent dream: founding his own sky pirate crew, the "Bunny Ears Pirates," incorporating allies met during their travels. His bond with Ren deepens into mutual love, openly acknowledged by companions long before Cou admits it. A pivotal moment sees him killed defending Ren from Edel Garden's leaders; he is resurrected by the sacrifice of Eve, the former queen, granting him an Edel Raid's lifespan to remain with Ren. The series concludes with them rejoining the Red Lynx crew. In the spin-off *Flag of Blue Sky*, he appears aged 17, continuing his adventures.
