Kawase Mitsurou, a recent college graduate, starts his career as a middle school art teacher. Observing fellow teacher Kazama Toshiaki with students, he becomes the unexpected focus of Kazama's romantic interest. Mitsurou wavers persistently, uncertain about Kazama's advances and his own feelings, his internal conflict laced with shame and confusion stemming from societal views on same-sex relationships. His background includes a mother running a bed and breakfast and a protective, jealous younger brother, Hitoshi. This familial context emerges when Mitsurou and Kazama visit the establishment. Mitsurou's indecision creates tension between them, prompting Kazama to express frustration through extreme statements, including a threat of violence meant to force Mitsurou to confront his emotions. External pressures mount when a woman, reportedly encouraged by school administration due to perceived career benefits tied to a traditional family, pursues Kazama. This triggers visible jealousy in Mitsurou, leading to erratic actions like surreptitiously following Kazama and the woman to a golf course. During this time, his appearance alters, including a change in hair color. A subsequent dangerous situation involving Mitsurou sees an unexpected intervention by the woman, who kisses him, further complicating the dynamics. Faced with losing Kazama, Mitsurou temporarily ends their relationship. However, following the woman's rejection by Kazama, Mitsurou reconciles with him, offers an apology, and finally acknowledges his own feelings. Their reconciliation culminates in a mutual kiss, signaling Mitsurou's acceptance of their relationship despite his earlier doubts and societal concerns. His journey depicts a progression from confusion and denial towards a resolved, hard-won commitment.
