Description
Perrito is a small mixed-breed dog with mottled merle fur, including brown patches on his face. He has large turquoise eyes, a small gray muzzle, crooked teeth, and one bent ear. He sports a dirty sock worn as a sweater, a remnant from being abandoned in a river stuffed inside it with a rock; scars and stitches are visible on his round pink belly underneath.

Born into a family whose children repeatedly tried to abandon him during games of "Hide & Seek," he persistently returned. They eventually forced him into the sock with a rock and threw him into a river. He chewed his way free, saving himself, and kept the sock. After this trauma, he lived without a permanent home or name. Driven from living under Mama Luna's porch by infestations of rats and centipedes, he disguised himself as a cat to reside at her Cat Rescue.

His personality exhibits unwavering optimism, trust, and naivete. He consistently reframes his traumatic past positively, viewing abandonment as games and the sock incident as providing a "free sweater." His primary aspiration is to become a therapy dog, driven by a desire to offer emotional support. This leads him to urge Puss to rub his belly for comfort and later effectively calm Puss during a panic attack through physical contact and guided breathing. Despite betrayals, he maintains belief in others' goodness and expresses contentment with friendships and simple possessions, disinterested in material gains or wishes.

He meets Puss at Mama Luna's and instantly declares them friends. He helps Puss retrieve his gear and disobeys instructions to stay behind, following him to the Jack Horner Pie Co. There, he provides Puss with a stick-sword and later joins the quest to find the Wishing Star alongside Kitty Softpaws. During this journey, he carries the map, which reflects his inner contentment by transforming the dangerous forest into a safe, straightforward path. He openly shares his positively reinterpreted backstory when asked.

He is captured multiple times by antagonists, including Jack Horner and the Three Bears Crime Family. During captivity with the latter, his innocent participation in their bickering, including naive trash-talking, inadvertently amuses Papa Bear. His expression of longing for a family like theirs also prompts Goldilocks to reconsider her wish.

His influence is pivotal to the main characters' development. His intervention during Puss's panic attack provides crucial emotional grounding. His perspective helps Puss confront past regrets regarding Kitty and accept the value of his single life. He also helps Kitty develop greater trust. In the climax against Jack Horner, his failed "cute eyes" distraction delays Horner long enough for allies to intervene. He expresses a desire to keep the nickname "Perrito," given by his friends. After these events, he pilots a stolen ship and successfully names the trio "Team Friendship." He appears in the short film "The Trident."
