Yoshitsugu Otani, bearing the title Gyobu-shoyu (lesser minister of justice), commands forces for the Western Army in the Battle of Sekigahara. He conceals his severely progressed leprosy behind a mask yet maintains clear-headed, perceptive military strategy despite his physical deterioration. Otani anticipates betrayal risks within the Western Army, specifically from Hideaki Kobayakawa and Hiroie Kikkawa's factions, and deploys tactical countermeasures while arranging rescue efforts for allies like Yukinaga Konishi during combat. As defections and Eastern Army assaults collapse the Western forces, Otani performs seppuku following defeat. His comrade Tōdō Takatora acts as his second in this final act.
