Description
Papá Panda is an anthropomorphic giant panda who escapes from a zoo with his young son, Panny. They encounter Mimiko, a human child living alone in a bamboo grove, leading to the formation of an unconventional family unit. Papá Panda becomes a father figure to Mimiko while maintaining his paternal bond with Panny. He possesses a large, rotund, and cuddly physique with distinctive black-and-white fur, black eye rings, and a characteristic wide grin. Despite his imposing size causing initial alarm, he embodies the gentle giant archetype, exhibiting innate kindness, patience, and a relaxed, easygoing nature. He actively participates in domestic life with Mimiko and Panny, embracing household responsibilities.

His background as a former zoo animal persists, and he enters an arrangement where he works at the zoo during the day but returns to live with Mimiko and Panny outside visiting hours, demonstrating commitment to both his biological son and adopted human daughter. He enjoys smoking a pipe as a paternal activity. His caregiving extends in the sequel when he and Mimiko temporarily shelter a lost baby tiger named Tiny.

Papá Panda acts as a protector in critical situations. He saves Mimiko and Panny from perilous floodwaters by closing a rusted floodgate. Later, he prevents disaster by stopping a runaway circus train carrying animals, which was on a collision course due to flooding. His character development focuses on integrating into human society and his unwavering dedication to this unique family. He exhibits emotional intelligence, readily accepting Mimiko as his daughter and nurturing a harmonious household. His design and gentle nature serve as precursors to later iconic characters in the creators' filmography. His core character and backstory remain consistent across the media.
